Which is More Obscene, "Fuck" or "Lying to a Dead Soldier's Family"?

Despite protests by its producer, director and distributor that "The Tillman Story" is an important documentary that should be available to young people, it has lost an appeal to have the Motion Picture Association of America change its R rating to PG-13.

Producer John Battsek and director Amir Bar Lev made a personal appeal Thursday in Los Angeles before the appeals board, which is composed of studio distribution and major exhibition executives, but could not convince them to change the rating. That makes it unlikely that the picture will be made available to young people in schools and through libraries in years to come.

  1. How deviously insane to rate this film "R". The cover-up continues.

At the Ft. Benning Infantry museum there is a small display commemorating Pat Tillman, and the charade continues:

It proclaims, killed by the enemy in the line of fire. We brought the mistake to the attention of the docent who seemed surprised, and she asked us to tell her the real story.

I am astounded at the ignorance that perdures in this wired age.

  3. If you want to understand why the MPAA might have made this decision, see this IMDB entry for "This Movie Is Not Yet Rated" at:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/

I highly recommend the movie itself.

  5. If Schindler's List (rated R) could be distributed to and shown in every high school in the country, then why not this movie? All that is needed is someone willing to authorize and pay for the distribution, as did Spielberg.

  6. School districts, and private schools too for that matter, are all different WRT what movies their libraries have available and procedures that teachers must follow in showing movies to their classes.

It depends upon their clientele. Not having seen this film, I'm guessing that a school district whose patrons are the gung ho military types or right wing would not want this available, no matter the rating. Of course, we all know that the Nazis were bad, and naked people being gunned down is a good way to prove that. On the other hand, a film proving the US military establishment is bad by viewing a movie showing it to be so may not be acceptable in many places, "fuck" or no.

  7. It's a pity that the person(s) who committed this felony have not been...prosecuted...easily 2nd degree murder, and if the prosecutor is good functionally not retarded and does his homework, 1st degree murder with special circumstances...with possible conspiracy if another was involved knowingly.
