Friday Jukebox: Juche Edition

Say what you want to about North Korea; yes, it's a vicious, paranoid dictatorship, bristling with weaponry, brutal and callous to the point of internal genocide.But...damn those rascals can get down!

No wonder that call it the Communist PARTY!

(Have a happy Labor Day, and a big h/t to Armchair Generalist)

  1. Thanks for this Chief . . . it was a blast from the bad ole day's past. The North Koreans follow Soviet template of military parades . . .

  2. Yep. It must be misplace nostalgia, but I miss the ol' May Day blasts in Red Square.

The one thing that I got a real kick out of was the bizarre goosestep these guys do. It seems to have some sort of freaky bounce to it that makes it perfect with the dance party music. When the Nazi troops goosestepped it seemed scary. These guys just look like they have a party in their pants.

  3. Yeah, I was going to say, that goose-stepping didn't look like it was conducive for a long lasting use of the legs.
But there was something else I noticed...and it's kind of interesting...watch the video again, except this time...look at the belly's of everyone being shown.
The only person in all those videos sporting a belly of any type is the dear leader.

  4. sheer-

The goosestepping part is only during the actual review, as in when they pass before the main honcho (like with our own "Eyes right!"), although it seems that in this case they may have started the goosestep when they entered the square . . . Gotta admit the babes with swords was kinda cool too although the Soviets had nothing like it . . .
