New Bartender

I have asked Jim (whose gun chief Lisa is a member of the bar staff here) of RANGER AGAINST WAR to join the rest of the waitstaff here. Many of you know him as a long-time commenter here, and you may have encountered his verbal stylings at his own blog. He describes himself as "twice retired from the Department of the Army. His past incarnations include DAC/SME Training Specialist/Terrorism Counteraction/ SF Branch Officer, retired."

He adds that "Since retirement, he has unsuccessfully been attempting to become a feeling, sensitive being, like FDC himself." To which I can only reply that feelings and sensitivity are relative terms. The sensitivity of my feelings about, say, the fellow that used to post at the old Intel Dump as "Diogenes" can be summarized as a strong inclination to kick the man somewhere...sensitive.

But I welcome Jim here and look forward to his additions to our discussions.

  1. Chief,
Thanks for the welcome, but it's jim with a small j.
Also, i'd like to add that i do not write or comment as a hidden face blogger. My name and records are published on Ranger.
    Glad to be aboard.

  2. Well, there goes the neighborhood.

Actually, well done, Chief. My friend the Ranger has some very valuable insights into matters we view as important; I'm looking forward to his input.

    Welcome aboard, small j jim.

  6. jim,

It seems to me you play nice with others. Sure you get passionate from time-to-time, but who doesn't? That's not any kind of fault in my book.

Glad to hear Ranger isn't going away.

  7. Andy,
The only thing that can make Ranger go away is 20 million units of penicillin.

  8. great news jim. I've been reading your other blog and have enjoyed your commentary, I look forward to seeing you bring the same discussions this way. Perhaps it is the psychoanalyst in me, but I find your own blog to be more revealing of your true personality and character. I look forward to learning more, such as, at what point in your career did you begin to see through the bullshit, or have you always had held your current views on life, politics, etc? I am not too proud to admit that the members of this site (plus the old intel dump) have contributed significantly to the drastic changing of my views and perspectives on a variety of topics. I add your commentary to that list of influences and I look forward to more. This site has truly been a refuge for me, imagine if you had an outlet of experience like this to tap into while you were a young officer.

  9. bg,
Now i have to watch what i say, possibly i can fire my shrink and just get free counseling.
Several people have suggested that i reveal more of myself in my writings ,but i prefer to use the persona of Ranger.
I have done a very personal essay called WHEN I'M 64 to be pubbed on 13 Mar.with a follow up the next day.Hope you come to RAW to share the experience.
As you can tell i'm more comfortable being out on the flank with the security element.
I primarily come to this site to link up with Publius, and Chief primarily, and of course all the other usual suspects.
I apologise for any times that i've shown my ass in the past.

  11. jim - Welcome aboard. Good move on FDC's part. But expect some rhubarb and bone-picking from this crew, not me of course ;-], once in a blue moon or so. So don't play too nice.

And it's cheaper than patronizing a bartender!
