They sound like my type of place. Thanks for the invite. Would love to get out that way. Maybe sometime in the future if I ever get off my butt and visit my younger sister who settled down in Savannah I can swing up that way. Or maybe I could do a three-fer and visit Amicalola in between Savannah and the grand old opry in Nashville. From the map it appears about halfway between the two.mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09123137206598163451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-381917167978264683.post-15838143144076573852016-06-09T16:34:30.332-07:002016-06-09T16:34:30.332-07:00Mike,

It was Marshall who beat Hap Arnold, Chief of the Air Corps, in the arm wrestling debate on whether we should invade Europe. Arnold had insisted the if he could only get more bombers he could win the war without an invasion. It was Marshall that finally bested Churchill and Field Marshall Brooke in negotiations over strategy. Churchill and Brooke kept pushing the 'soft underbelly' of Europe instead of Normandy. Tell that 'soft underbelly' crap to the GIs at Salerno, Anzio, Cassino and the Rapido River.<br />mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09123137206598163451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-381917167978264683.post-4835399859956921782016-06-05T15:12:57.160-07:002016-06-05T15:12:57.160-07:00Well there's some info that I did not know. I also like the post (linked) on Marshall's tenure at Fort Benning, where he revolutionized infantry training, and forged many of WWII's best generals.
